Top 5 Animation Films of the 21st Century

I have wanted to do a ‘top 5’ for a while now. I love animation films, especially the ones on this list, so it was easy to choose my first top 5.

Animation films have burst into life in the 21st century, due to technology improvements and the creation of animation studios such as Pixar and DreamWorks. Although, animated films have been produced since early 1900s, I felt it was best to distinguish by selecting films from 21st Century, to stop myself getting a selection headache. Therefore, early Disney films, e.g. Fantasia, and films within the ‘Disney Renaissance’, e.g. Lion King, are not to be included within the list.

Here is my top 5 animation films:

1. Inside Out (2016)

Pixar have produced modern classics year-upon-year, ever since the release of their first feature film – Toy Story; subsequently, cementing their position as animations ‘top dogs’. Therefore, the theatrical success of Inside Out came as no surprise to me. It is undoubtedly one of Pixar’s greatest creative masterpieces. The film is an unique insight into your mind and an imaginative take on growing up. It follows a young girl, Riley, who is trying to come to terms with moving house. Her actions are influenced by her 5 emotions (Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear & Disgust) and it becomes their mission to help Riley adapt to her new surroundings.

The Next Bond?

It is fair to say that Daniel Craig’s days as James Bond are coming to an end. Although he is still in the running for the next movie, ‘Bond 25’, he has shown signs that he is tired of the role and may not do another one. Regardless if he does the next film or not, we are still expecting a new James Bond. Here are my picks for the top contenders for the role:

Tom Hardy

Big news was released last week that Christopher ‘God’ Nolan’s production company, Syncopy, has signed on as a partner for Bond 25. Thereby, sparking rumours that Christopher Nolan will be the next director. This would make sense as he has a very strong record as a director & writer, plus he has not got any public plans after Dunkirk (cannot wait for Dunkirk). Nolan favours certain actors such as Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy and Christian Bale. Out of the Nolan ‘regulars’, I believe Tom Hardy is most likely to be James Bond, as he possesses the Bond characteristics – good looking, athletic and charming. However, Tom Hardy is undoubtedly one of the hottest British actors at the moment and it would be tough for him to free up his time for the role.

13 Must-See Coming of Age Movies That Explore Key Adolescent Themes

Hi there, I have compiled a list of adolescent movie themes and, what I believe to be, the best movies that depict each theme.

I have not included films I have not seen. Obviously, there are some films which I know should probably be on this list, but even a film fan like myself cannot watch everything. Almost Famous, The Graduate and Risky Business are all high on my ‘to-watch’ list.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading this and it encourages you to watch some of these films.

Rebellion

All Teenagers at some point act rebellious, in an endeavour to gain independence from their parents. This theme can be spotted throughout coming of age movies, my favourite example is:

Rushmore (1998)

Wes Anderson directs a quirky movie about a teenage boy who is too mature for his own good. In an attempt to prove his maturity, he tries to win over the love of his school teacher, but is faced with consequences. Throughout the movie he is a pain to his peers and does not shy away from breaking a few school rules. The whole movie is amazing and Jason Schwartzman is simply brilliant from start to finish.

Other examples include: A Rebel Without a Cause; Into the Wild; Easy A.
